APA Format: Editorials or Published Letters

When an editorial or letter in a newspaper is cited, a typical bibliographic entry will appear as follows:

Berkowitz, A. D. (2000, November 24). How to tackle the problem of student drinking [Letter to the editor]. The Chronicle of Higher Education, p. B20.

Follow all the directions listed for newspaper citations, and include a bracketed statement that identifies the piece as an editorial or letter to the editor.

For more specific information, consult the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Fifth Edition) or see the APA style website.
