  MLA Format: Performances

To cite a performance, begin with an underlined title of the work followed by information similar to that given for a film bibliography (e.g. author, director, conductor...). Next state the theater and the city in which it is located and then the date of the performance.

Phantom of the Opera. By Andrew Lloyd Webber. Dir. Tom None. Winter Garden, New York. 13 Aug. 1988.

When emphasis on the contribution of a particular person in a performance is necessary, begin instead with the person's name, followed by a short description of his or her role in the performance.

None, Tom, dir. Phantom of the Opera. By Andrew Lloyd Webber. Winter Garden, New York. 13 Aug. 1988.

Note that, unlike the first citation, the last name of the contributor is stated first.
