AWP Sequence One

Rhetoric 100:  Rhetoric Tutorial
In this fifty-minute tutorial accompanying Rhet 101 and Rhet 102, students receive individual support for developing academic writing skills. Rhet 100 is graded on a pass-fail (S/U) basis and is worth one credit hour.  Failure in Rhet 100 does not constitute failure in Rhet 101 or 102, and has no bearing on the Comp I requirement. However, students consistently do better in Rhet 101 and 102 when they participate actively in tutorials.

Rhetoric 102:  College Writing, II
This course provides continued instruction in structuring essays; reviews topics covered in Rhet 101; teaches a variety research approaches; and emphasizes skills for supporting for arguments through source use.  The course includes guidance in selecting topics of academic interest and examining them from a variety of perspectives. Students locate credible sources, analyze and evaluate them, and use them to fashion their own arguments. This course is the second of the two-semester sequence (Rhet 101-102); students must have passed Rhet 101 to enroll in Rhet 102 and must register for a tutorial (Rhet 100) concurrently.

Students in this sequence must pass both Rhetoric 101 and Rhetoric 102 in order to complete the Composition I requirement.
