John Griswold

John Griswold has taught undergraduate creative writing (prose), literature, and rhetoric at UIUC since 2000. Before that, he was a corporate and freelance writer and editor, manager of an ad agency, city bus driver, Army deep-sea diver, and interpretive ranger at a state park.

His stories, poems, and essays have appeared or are forthcoming in War, Literature and the Arts; Mediphors; Brevity; Perigee; Monkey Bicycle; Juked; and Natural Bridge, which nominated him for the 2001 Pushcart Prize. The Stork, a story chapbook, is forthcoming from Featherproof Books.

As Oronte Churm, John is a columnist for McSweeney's Internet Tendency and has a piece in Mountain Man Dance Moves (McSweeney's Books). He is also a contributing writer for Inside Higher Ed, has been a contributing editor for Adjunct Advocate, and has written for other websites.

His novel, "A Democracy of Ghosts", is under submission to publishers as he works on a book tentatively titled "How We Become Men".
