Jim Purdy (English Department, Center for Writing Studies) will present his talk "Calling off the Hounds: Technology and the Visibility of Plagiarism" for the Center for Writing Studies Graduate Student Research Spring Colloquium.

Faye Edwards Moar (English Department, Center for Writing Studies) will present her talk "Lifting Word by Word: Nineteenth Century African American Women Teaching" for the Center for Writing Studies Graduate Student Research Spring Colloquium. Both talks will be held in room 126, Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Research in Progress Brownbag Lunch Series, Debra Hawhee. Professor Hawhee will discuss her two projects, one just completed on rhetoric in ancient Greece, and the other just underway on Kenneth Burke's theories of the body. Possible topics might include: how her dissertation became a book, and her approaches to archival work/strategies for historical work. The brownbag will be held 12:30-1:30 p.m. in 107A English Building.

Thursday, February 12, 2004:
Kathleen Blake Yancey (Clemson University) will present her talk“Reading across Sites of Learning: Technology, Medium Plural, and New Writing Practices--and What They (Might) Mean for Composition(ists)” at the Center for Writing Studies Colloquia Series. Refiguring Writing in Large Lecture Classes. A second large class workshop sponsored by the Center for Writing Studies, this workshop will consider ways in which writing can and cannot be used effectively to enhance teaching and learning in large classes. The workshop is being held for those who were unable to participate in October. Time: 9:00 - 12:00 p.m. Room: 404 Illini Union.

Richard Grusin (Wayne State University) will present his talk "Premediation" at the Center for Writing Studies Colloquia Series. The Colloquium will be held at the auditorium of the Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences. Room 126. Time: 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Refiguring Writing in Large Lecture Classes. A new initiative sponsored by the Center for Writing Studies, this initial workshop will consider ways in which writing can and cannot be used effectively to enhance teaching and learning in large classes.

Jody Shipka (English Department and Center for Writing Studies) will present her talk "From Corrections to Connections: Engineering Rhetorical Events" for the Center for Writing Studies Graduate Student Research Fall Colloquium.

Kevin Roozen (English Department and Center for Writing Studies) will present his talk "Reading the River: Connecting Curricular and Extracurricular Currents of Literate Activity" for the Center for Writing Studies Graduate Student Research Fall Colloquium. Both talks will be held in room 126, Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences from 4:00-5:30 p.m.
