The Center for Writing Studies sponsors a variety of events for the benefit of faculty, staff, and students. These events range from social gatherings and interactive workshops to our colloquium series and research-in-progress brownbag lunch series. For the dates of upcoming events for this academic year, please see below. Schedules from previous academic years are accessible at the bottom of the page.

:: May 2008

Friday, May 9:
CWS graduate students will speak at a special forum, "Reflections on the Job Search." The meeting with be held from 11:00am-12:00pm. (room 107).

May 12-14:
Faculty Writing Across the Curriculum Seminar
108/129 English Bldg., 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. each day

Saturday, May 15:
End-of-the-year Writing Studies Potluck will be held at Professor Gail Hawisher's house at 6:00 p.m. Email Teresa or Gail to RSVP and to let them know what you plan to bring.

Thursday, April 10:
Melissa Tombro (Department of English, Center for Writing Studies) will present her talk for the Writing Studies Graduate Student Research Spring Colloquium.

Amy Herb (Department of English, Center for Writing Studies) will present her talk for the Writing Studies Graduate Student Research Spring Colloquium.

Both talks will be held in room 126, Graduate School of Library and Information Science from 4:00-5:30 p.m.


Friday, April 18:
Spencer Schaffner (Department of English, Center for Writing Studies) will lead a session on teaching portfolios. The meeting with be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. in room 107A, English Building.

Friday, April 25:
Melissa Littlefield (University of Illinois, English and Kinesiology) will speak at the research-in-progress brownbag series. The brownbag will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in 107A English Building.

Friday, February 1:
Norm Denzin (University of Illinois, College of Communications) will speak at our brownbag series. The brownbag will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in 107A English Building.

Thursday, February 7:
Eileen Schell
(Syracuse University) will speak at the Colloquium Series. The Colloquium will be held in room 126 of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Friday, February 29:
Anne Haas Dyson (University of Illinois, Curriculum and Instruction) will speak at our brownbag series. The brownbag will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in 107A English Building.

Thursday, December 6:
Young-Kyung Min (Curriculum & Instruction, Center for Writing Studies) will present her talk for the Center for Writing Studies Graduate Student Research Fall Colloquium.

Steve Fraiberg (Department of English, Center for Writing Studies) will present his talk for the Center for Writing Studies Graduate Student Research Fall Colloquium.

Both talks will be held in room 126, Graduate School of Library and Information Science from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Janet Dixon Keller
(University of Illinois, Anthropology) will speak at the research-in-progress brownbag series. The brownbag will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in 107A English Building.

Friday, October 12:
Bill Cope
(University of Illinois, Educational Policy Studies) will speak at the research-in-progress brownbag series. His talk is titled "What's New about New Media?" The brownbag will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in 107A English Building.

Thursday, October 25:
David Fleming
(University of Massachusetts Amherst) will speak at the Colloquium Series. The Colloquium will be held in room 126 of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Friday, September 7:
The Center for Writing Studies will be having a (FREE!) pizza party this Friday, September 7th from 11:30 - 1:00 in 107A English Bldg. to welcomeall of our new graduate students and to welcome back all of our returning graduate students.

Thursday, September 13:
Jeff Grabill
(Michigan State University) will speak at the Colloquium Series. The Colloquium will be held in room 126 of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Saturday, September 15 :
