He is the author of Literacy in the library: Negotiating the spaces between order and desire (Bergin & Garvey, 1997), and has collaboratively written chapters for recent anthologies, including Libr@ries: Changing information space and practice (Bertram Bruce and Cushla Kaptizke, Eds.), Literacy research methodologies (Nell Duke and Marla Mallette, Eds.), and Writing permitted in designated areas only (Linda Brodkey, Ed.). He presents regularly at the annual meetings of the National Reading Conference and the American Educational Research Association and has presented internationally at the University of London and in Mexico.

He is currently Reviews Editor for Journal of Curriculum Studies and from 2000-2003 was Book Review Editor for The New Advocate. He serves on the editorial boards of Research in the Teaching of English and Reading Research Quarterly.
