Biographical Statement
Professor O’Gorman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech Communication. His research interests include rhetorical theory, rhetorical criticism, and aesthetics, especially as they intersect with ethical and political questions. He has published articles on the rhetorical theory of Aristotle, on sublimity in ancient and modern contexts, and on the ethical theory of the dissident Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was executed by the Nazis for his role in the German resistance to Hitler. Presently, Professor O’Gorman is working on a book on the presidency, sublimity, and national disaster in the Cold War. He teaches courses in rhetorical theory and criticism.
