APA Format: Letters

Personal communications, like unpublished interviews, memos, letters, telephone conversations, etc., do not need to be listed in a references page, because they do not provide recoverable data. Simply cite the information in the text of your document, according to the following format:

(C. Jones, personal communication, June 6, 2007)

Here the entry consists of the first initial and last name of the letter writer, the words "personal communication," and the date.
