FACULTY ACTIVITIES  

Prendergast, Catherine
--- received the David H. Russell Award at the NCTE meeting in Nashville . The David H. Russell Award "recognizes published research in language, literature, rhetoric, teaching procedures, or cognitive processes that may sharpen the teaching or the content of English at any level."

This is the FOURTH national award won by her book Literacy and Racial Justice: The Politics of Learning after Brown versus Board of Education.

Prize: $500 and publication in the inaugural issue
All writers not associated with the editors of the St. Petersburg Review may enter.
Postmark deadline: February 1, 2007
for publication in Spring 2007. Entry/reading fee: $15.00 (U.S. checks or money orders made payable to the St. Petersburg Review). Each entrant will receive a copy of the inaugural issue of the review if a complete address is enclosed. An entry may consist of up to three unpublished poems or an unpublished short story or piece of nonfiction (either of up to 7,500 words) that are consistent with the theme of “found in translation” (literal or metaphorical interpretation). There will be one winner. Simultaneous submissions are o.k.; please let us know immediately if they have been accepted somewhere else. Fees will not be refunded and submissions will not be returned. If you would like the results, please send an SASE. Please type all entries and submit individual entries separately. Include a page with your name, address, phone number, email address, and the title(s) of the entry. Your name must not appear on the manuscript.

Responsibilities: Research and teaching in the applicant's professional field, supervising MA theses, and teaching English language skills courses.

Requirements: Doctorate in English with specialization in any aspect of British literature; fluency in spoken and written English.

Salary: Minimum starting salary for an Assistant Professor currently NT$68,190/month (approximately US$2,100/month). Housing allowance, health insurance and start-up funds also provided.

PART-TIME POSITION

Part-Time Raters Needed For TOEFL iBT Speaking and Writing Program
(Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based Testing)

Who: Teachers or individuals with B.A. or M.A. (preferred) degree from an accredited college or university along with two+ years experience assessing written or spoken English and/or qualified in English Language training.

What: TOEFL iBT is a comprehensive assessment of communicative competence that includes all four-language skills: Reading , Listening, Writing and Speaking.

Where: TOEFL iBT raters will use the ETS Online Scoring Network TM (OSN) system. Raters will evaluate examinees responses using the computer from their home or office.

When: Multiple sessions throughout the year.

Training: Approved applicants will self-train using the online Tutorial. Successful certification is required to score.
