Multimedia Policy

Reservations:
- All equipment, the multimedia classroom, and the small
conferences rooms must be reserved through Chris Fiscus
in person, by phone (333-2577), or by email (c-fiscus@uiuc.edu).
Last minute requests can sometimes be accomodated, but
all resources are provided on a
first-reserved-first-served basis. Because of unusually
heavy demand on certain facilities and equipment,
reservations should be made as far in advance as
possible.
- The Center cannot normally accept reservations for the
use of equipment for a period longer than 3 days. Staff
members requiring equipment for a longer period should
consult the IMS Loan Pool (333-7963). Permission to
borrow equipment beyond 3 days should be brought up with
the Chair of the Multimedia Center Committee.
- An instructor can place a standing equipment reservation
for the entire semester, but abuse of this priviledge
(using the standing reservation to insure the
availability of a particular piece of equipment that is
only occasionally used) will result in termination of the
standing reservation.
- Videos and laserdiscs currently assigned in department
courses should be considered on permanent reserve and can
only be viewed in the Multimedia Center.
- Only instructors can check out films from the Multimedia
Center.
- Materials from the Multimedia Center can be put on
reserve in the Undergraduate Media Center.
Afterhours use of video
equipment in room 27: An instructor may reserve video
equipment and/or tapes for afterhours use by prior reservation.
In the afternoon, the instructor will need to pick up the
equipment, materials, and the key for room 27, move the equipment
to room 27, and lock the door. The key should be returned to the
Multimedia Center counter by using the mail drop in the door of
room 59.
Student Use: The English
Multimedia Center provides equipment and services to instructors.
Students are encouraged to use the Undergraduate
Media Center (located on the 1st floor of the Undergraduate
Library). Teachers should place multimedia resources on reserve
in the Undergradute Media Center, which is devoted to serving the
student population and has more equipment, staff, and longer
hours of operation than the English Multimedia Center. The
following services can be provided to students:
- Students may borrow
cameras, tape recorders, editor/viewers, 8mm projectors,
carousel projectors, phonographs, etc. for classroom
projects if they have a permission form signed by their
instructor.
- Students in English 104 or
273 are allowed to view videos in the Multimedia
Center in groups of 5 or more in special showings
arranged by instructors when facilities are available.
Students in English 300-level film classes, students
engaged in independent study, or students in 400-level
English classes may view videos for work on term papers
or class projects.
- Students can
check-out phonograph records and audio cassettes. Late
fines are .25 a day.
Traveling Video Carts:
The Center has three VHS video/TV carts with inflated tires that
can be taken outside the building for use in classrooms in nearby
buildings.
The Conference/Study Rooms:
59-C and 59-D can accommodate 3 to 6 people, but are best for
individual classroom preparation, or for thesis defense or
testing situations that require multimedia.
Copyright: The
Multimedia Center abides by all fair use provisions of US
copyright law.
